02) True Happiness Only Exists in the Present Moment

True Happiness Only Exists in the Present MomentFollowing one’s bliss sounds great on paper, but very few of us ever experience “it” for more than a few fleeting moments before our minds rush in to spoil the spiritual party.

But therein lies a hint to why it’s so hard to capture bliss, fulfillment, happiness, peace, transcendence, enlightenment, or whatever you want to call it: this state of consciousness can only be experienced, not thought.

And equally important, this state can only be experienced right now, not at some point in the future.

Dark Helmet: “When will then be now?”
Colonel Sandurz: “Soon.”

My name is John Fotheringham and I’m a languaholic. I originally hail from Seattle, but have spent most of the past decade living, learning, and working in Japan, Bangladesh, China, and Taiwan. I currently reside in Los Angeles where I am a full-time "manny" (or "bro pair" as my older brother calls me) for my 5-year-old nephew. I focus most on Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, and Spanish but love all languages. And corny puns. And sushi. You can learn more about my other projects at: http://johnfotheringham.net

Very funny. Thanks so much for this video clip, which I wouldn’t have seen otherwise.

Yah, Space Balls is one of my all time faves. I spent a lot of time trying to find a good video clip or quote for this post and finally remembered the “now” scene. Classic!
