The novel method was most interesting to me. My first novel in Spanish felt like a huge milestone, an accomplishment to be proud of. It was very motivating, too. Excellent interview. Just you mentioning the idea of having lived in a foreign country but having never learned the language and then having to give people that "dumb answer", makes me queasy. Currently, that is not my situation, but it applies to the fact that I'm attempting to learn Japanese and the people around me know I am. So I think about what if I had to explain to them that I ended up stopping and didn't learn the language. There is no real excuse other than lack of dedication. As you say, "The pain of being fat is worse than the pain of not eating that cake." Truly inspirational words.
