It’s amazing how previously learned languages rear their head in new languages one takes on. When I try to dust off my high school French, Japanese and Mandarin words sometimes try to cram their way in!

I decided to start studying French again for an eventual visit to Saint-Pierre and Miquelon. It has been painful, but I am finally at the point where I can manage a sentence in French without subbing in German or Japanese by mistake.
